Who is offering the best mortgage rates right now?
16/08/2023Earlier this year, the Bank of England’s base rate for mortgages increased for the 14th consecutive time since December 2021. The rate now stands at 5.25%, with an expectation to rise again to 5.75% in early 2024.
With the base rate consistently on the rise, the question on the mind of those looking to get on the property ladder right now is ‘who is offering the best mortgage rates?’.
However, it’s important to note that mortgage rates offered by a lender are not so clear-cut and depend solely on an individual’s personal circumstances.
The rate an individual is offered is based on a range of factors, including credit score, home location, home price, loan amount, down payment, loan term, interest rate type and loan type.
As financial advisors, we have a ‘consumer duty’ to find the best, most efficient products and services for our customers based on all of the circumstances above.
What is Consumer Duty?
Consumer Duty refers to FCA legislation that requires ongoing efforts to enhance consumer protection in financial services. Consumer Duty combines an overarching principle that a business must act to deliver positive results for its customers with high, clear standards of consumer protection.
Because we are here to give customers advice and suggestions on financial products and services, financial advisors must ensure they comply with the standards of Consumer Duty.
